Honor Flight Northeast Indiana (HFNEI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring America's veterans by providing them with complimentary trips to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials erected in their honor. Established as an independent hub of the national Honor Flight Network, HFNEI focuses on veterans from World War II through the Vietnam era, prioritizing senior veterans and those facing terminal illnesses. The organization operates solely through donations from individuals and corporations, ensuring that veterans can experience these trips at no personal cost. Each veteran is accompanied by a guardian, often a family member or volunteer, who assists them throughout the journey. Since its inception, HFNEI has successfully transported over 3,800 veterans, with plans to continue honoring more in the future. From its incorporation in 2008 to today, this growth is reflected in: doubling the number of flights taken a year, a 275% increase in budget per flight, the expansion of our Board of Directors, which has grown from 5 to 15 members, and the development of a dedicated Volunteer Corps now consisting of 30 members. Many of these board members and volunteers have been with HFNEI since its earliest days, exemplifying the commitment and heart that have powered this mission from the very beginning. Flight #50 is not just another flight; it's a momentous occasion. It represents the 28 veterans who took our inaugural flight on May 9, 2009, to the 85 new veterans who will fly today. Beyond the flights themselves, HFNEI adds even more to the total number honored through our expanded programs like Flags of Our Heroes and Virtual Honor Flights.
